Robert Plant New York Concert reviews
Total Disappointment
Robert Plant has built his new band with vocal harmonies and mushy instrumentals around his lack of being able to hit the high notes and screams he used to do with Zep. Robert Plant's vocals were meant to be done as a solo, not subdued with background vocals and harmonies. If you're going to this show to see the old Zep forget it. Band of Joy only played 3 Zep songs and it sounded like Zep elevator music with a country twist. No pedal steel guitar thank you but almost. Plant definitely seems to be heading the country direction. He left the stage at one point for a song or two and let the band show their stuff. Admittedly, they are not a bad band but if you were expecting the old Zep or even the old Robert Plant "Ship of Fools" from Now and Zen with upbeat rhythms and a rocky feel with Jimmy Page type of riffs then stay home. Had I heard this sound before I bought tickets to this show I would have definitely stayed home too.
Robert Plant was stellar!
Loved his music and his new band. He is as vibrant as ever. The greatest!
They had extremely piercing spot lights flashing off and on into the audiences eyes...so blinding we couldn't watch at all, to keep people from videoing the concert and the sound was so loud that we had to have our fingers in our ears the entire time.
Also the people behind us were insane. There were lots of people beyond drunk screaming when Plant was trying to introduce the songs. He just gave up...
If Robert Plant weren't so good...it would have been the worst live concert experience we have ever had...sorry New Orleans, love you, but you have to work on the Mahalia Jackson theatre.
